PH&N’s only business is providing professional investment management services to its clients, who include institutional and non-profit investors as well as private individuals and their families. In September 2005, PH&N acquired BonaVista Asset Management Ltd. Effecitive May 1, 2008, PH&N joined forces with RBC Asset Management.
Investment Style
Phillips, Hager & North is a long-term investor whose disciplines have been honed over more than 43 years. PH&N’s philosophy is to add value in client portfolios while controlling risk. PH&N does not make large “market timing bets” and when asset mix shifts are made, they are done gradually and within defined ranges.
In managing fixed income assets, PH&N uses a multiple strategy approach.
Over the long term, PH&N believes that equities will outperform fixed income investments. In all regions, PH&N’s equity investment style focuses on high-quality companies that are attractively priced and, in the Canadian market, PH&N tends to target companies that are growth-oriented.
